PortAventura – Shambhala Update

Shambala-Portaventura-AttractionTix

You may remember back in November last year we talked about a new rollercoaster planned for PortAventura. With the opening just around the corner, we’re taking a look at the progress of the construction for this monumental thrill ride.

A European Record Breaker

Shambhala: Expedicion al Himalaya will be the tallest rollercoaster in Europe, reaching 76 metres high and set in an area of over 14,000m2 of themed space. The environment will be inspired from the landscapes and architecture in the Himalayan area, especially Bhutan. Guests can see the detail put into the scenery for themselves, allowing them to stroll right up to the rollercoaster’s structure.

Shambhala will be classed as a ‘hypercoaster’ due to its height, length and speed. The route will be over 1,650 metres with over 1,600 tonnes of steel.

With 5 camel-backs, this will create the sensation called air time where guests will lose contact with their seats momentarily, a thrilling prospect for any adrenaline junkie.

When it will be completed Shambhala will break three European records being the highest rollercoaster in Europe, the longest fall of 78 metres and the fastest hypercoaster, travelling at speeds of 134km/h.

Set to open on March 30th this spring, Shambhala is sure to be an exciting addition to PortAventura.
