Looking for places to eat in New York that won’t make your wallet run screaming or leave that rumbling stomach less than satisfied?
We’ve scoped out some of the best places to get your noms in New York for not-a-lot……
Bareburger (East Village)
Forever cropping up in “New York’s top 10 burgers” and the like, their burger selection ranges from the usual cow-based constituents to more “exotic- native” meats like elk or bison. Plus – and vegetarians will probably want to sit down for this – more than one type of veggie-burger, with quinoa and black bean featuring large.
Another Bareburger highlight is that you can mix n’ match your own toppings and sauce, or choose from one of their in-house combinations – each of which is recommended to go with a particular burger.
Burger joint at the Parker Meridien Hotel (West 56th St)
Only those who know the existence of this place will ever get to visit it. As you wander into the hotel reception you’ll see a purple velvet curtain in the corner. Those brave enough to venture beyond will be rewarded with a tiny, 1970s retro-feel burger joint with posters and graffiti covering the walls (and tables). They only do burgers and chips, but boy, those burgers and chips are good!
Tip: Get here before you get really hungry as there’s often a sizeable queue.
Grimaldi’s Pizza (DUMBO area of Brooklyn)
If you want to feel like you’re in a traditional Italian pizzeria – head to Brooklyn! Located just below the Brooklyn Bridge, you’ll usually find a queue outside, but the totally authentic, and most importantly gigantic coal fired brick-oven pizzas are more than worth the wait.
The View Restaurant (Marriott Hotel – Times Square)
New York’s only revolving restaurant is the ultimate place for a romantic meal. But unlike a lot of places, it doesn’t just rely on its USP (360º skyline views anyone?) – the food is absolutely gorgeous, the décor’s tasteful and the service is impeccable but discreet. It’s not the cheapest place you could eat, but you’ll gain infinite brownie points from whoever you take there!
Bateaux Dinner Cruise (Departs from Chelsea Piers)
Another one that you just can’t miss if you want something a bit more special. Again, this isn’t the cheapest eating option but sailing around the Statue of Liberty by night is a real treat, and the boat cruises past that famous skyline so you’ll get to do your sightseeing while you eat!
You won’t be let down by the food either – and going for the upgrade package will get you personal waiter service and an all-inclusive bar!
Tip: It pays to arrive early – you’ll be among the first to be seated and the first to get served with everything.
….And don’t forget to try your first Cronut (Lower Manhattan)
What has the crispy, sugary outside of a doughnut and the flaky tender layers of a croissant on the inside? Cronuts – created in New York by pastry chef Dominique Ansel – are the latest food fad spreading across the world.
Basically, you can’t visit NY without trying one of these babies, and the best place to go is Dominique’s eponymous pastry shop on Spring Street.
Monument Lane (Greenwich Avenue)
Looking for the perfect traditional NY brunch? Take your appetite over to this self-described “tavern” in the West Village, and if it’s a sunny day, take advantage of their outside seating.
Tip: Their Bloody Marys are a godsend to blow away the cobwebs after a good night.
