Christmas Shopping: The Dos and Don’ts

Christmas Shopping

Dreading the thought of starting your Christmas shopping?

Well unfortunately for those shop-phobics out there, it’s now December – which means there’s less than a month to go – which means it’s officially TIME TO GET A MOVE ON.

Not sure where to begin? No problem – Here’s our failsafe plan for taking on Christmas shopping and winning!

The Preparation:

Do have a big breakfast so you don’t have to stop for lunch, which gives you more potential shopping time.

Don’t wear shoes that might pinch or rub. You’ll be doing lots of walking so this might be one instance where you’ll need to forsake fashion and go with some “old faithfuls”.

Do take a bottle of water with you – if you’re going to be shopping for a good few hours you’ll need to stay hydrated, and it’s much cheaper than buying drinks when you’re out.

Do make a list of what you want to buy, even if some of them are just vague ideas. If you rely on keeping it all in your head, you’re guaranteed to forget something!

The Journey:

Don’t use it as a chance to socialise – this is one time when taking a friend along could seriously slow up your mission. Do your shopping alone, or at least take someone who loves shopping!

Don’t park in expensive shopping centre car parks – most cities have plenty of safe, privately-owned car parks just out of town. You’ll save money and and time spent queueing to get out!

Do set yourself a goal to make sure you get everything on your list. If you reach your goal you can treat yourself to a mulled wine at your local Christmas market!

The Actual Shopping:

Do go to shops off the beaten track to find something unique; there are loads of great charity shops, vintage shops and boutiques in cities like London.

Do take a minute to connect to the shopping centre wifi so you can compare prices of gifts on-the-go.

Don’t turn down the gift-wrapping service – it’ll save you time and your presents will look fabulous!

Don’t buy any large items until last, so you won’t have to carry them around with you.

Bonus Tip:

If you’re heading to the US on holiday or for work, do pick up bargains in New York or LA as the tax is lower on big brands.

…..And if you really can’t stand the thought of busy shopping centres or city centres: do your Christmas shopping online! But just make sure you do it with plenty of time to spare for deliveries!

Do you have any Christmas shopping tips you’d like to share?

Happy Shopping!
