Our great capital city is chock-a-block with fun things to do over the school holidays! Guest blogger and mum of 3 Anna Marikar gives us her top picks.
Half term is here already, and with the weather finally starting to brighten up a bit it’s the perfect time to get out and have some family adventures!
For those living in and around the capital, we are lucky to have a huge variety of things to do in London – and for those visiting the area over half term, hopefully this list will be useful too!
Fun for Free
You may still need to wrap up a bit but there are so many exciting parks for children to explore in the capital. One of our favourite Central London parks is Coram’s Fields, a seven acre park and playground with different sections of play equipment, a small city farm, sand and water play areas and a cafe – everything you need for a fun day out!
Animal Adventures
For animal lovers London Zoo is a brilliant day out. We went this year for the first time and would definitely recommend it. There is plenty to keep kids busy for a full day. We loved the penguins and the tigers!
If the weather is bad then The London Aquarium could be an alternative. The beautiful sea life appeals to all ages. My little ones love to watch the colourful fish, and more daring children will love to walk above the sharks.
Treat the Kids to a Big Day Out
If you want to treat the kids to a special day out, Legoland Windsor is now open again after the Winter and is sure to be a highlight of the holidays! This is my boys’ #1 favourite place to go and is fun for Lego fans of all ages.
A trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour would also be a day to remember for fans of the books or films. This is one we have not yet visited, but I’m looking forward to the boys being old enough to go.
Retail Therapy
Some of the bigger shopping centres like Westfield will have free activities for children over the holidays, so have a look what is on near you. This makes a great day when combined with lunch out and maybe a movie too.
Keep Learning over the Holidays
To keep learning going over the half term holidays we are really lucky to have so many good quality museums nearby, such as the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and the Transport Museum. The transport Museum has a small fee for adults entering, but they are all otherwise free. There is so much to explore and lots of learning potential for children of all ages, but of course in a fun way! Our favourite is the Science Museum.
Libraries also often have free activities over the holidays so it would be worth finding out what is happening near you!
